Group Meetings 7, 8, 9 (Week 3)

Meeting 7

In this meeting we began to outline and structure would would become our future storyboards, and face-timed as a group while we reflected on the feedback given to us after our pitch, we took care too look at the motives and psyche of each character, and why exactly, for example, the woman decides to kill him in the elevator rather than an apartment, or why she decided to kill him in the first place, as this is an unusual thing for a protagonist to do. We were also careful to think about the ways we could communicate things to the audience without explicitly telling them though dialogue.

Meeting 8

In this meeting we wrote an outline which is already published on out blogs, we worked together as a group, and really consolidated out idea, as well as addressing possible plot holes and how we could maneuver around them. This really helped out idea become whole before we finished our shot outline.

Meeting 9

In this meeting we wrote our overview of shots fourteen though thirty-six. we worked together to split the work evenly between us, so we could prepare our storyboards efficiently and as well and thoroughly as possible.

Workshop 3: Shooting a sequence

In this workshop, we explored the Master Scene Method, here is the video I created:

What is storyboarding?

What is Story Boarding and why is it important?

Storyboarding is a short series of shot-for-shot images describing what each one will look like and how it will be framed. These storyboards can range from incredibly intricate and colored in, to basic and black and white, all thats required is that they communicate enough information that everyone working in that pre-production process can gather an idea of what the scene would look like put to film.

Story Boarding is an integral piece of the pre-production process, it helps to map out and conceptualise the ideas of the ideas of the director and give everyone involved a basic outline of what each shot will look like in a consecutive order. By doing this, this means that they are at liberty to go out of order and film in multiple locations in a concise, efficient way, that spends less time running back and forth between location and therefore saves the money, effort and time that would be spent to do so.

Plot Overview: step by step outline

Our Step-by-Step breakdown of what happens in our opening scene:

by Adrianna, Tegan and Anna

  1. Girl walks into the elevator, and presses the button for level 3, with an envelope in hand.

  1. There is a voice heard, shouting for her to “Hold the door!” and a man slides through the closing elevator doors right at the last moment.

  1. Noticing that she’s already pressed his level, he mentions it to her, “going to the same level I see? Where are you headed?” She responds with apartment D2, his apartment. He finds this peculiar, and begins to question her.

  1. However, when she realises she has been caught, she has to act quickly as the man has now seen her and is highly suspicious, she panics, and in a quick, split-second decision, she lunges at him and they fight.

  1. Engaging in a quick combat scene, punches are thrown and suddenly this once perhaps overlooked woman begins to exhibit her agility and strength, dodging punches and using her opponent's strength against him. He punches through the elevator wall, getting his hand stuck in the side. With him sufficiently trapped, she bashes his head against the wall.

  1. Wiping the blood from her brow, she as consequently she managed to kill her opponent, although she wasn’t perfect. Her fight scene was messy and disorganized, leaving both characters and shambles. It is clear she isn’t as experienced as other action movie heroes might be, the rest of the film would be about her learning from her initial mistakes and really mastering her craft.

  1. The sequence finishes with a man lying on the floor of the lift, dead. The woman grabs her envelope again, however she looks up and notices something in the corner of her eye, a CCTV camera. It had recorded everything.
