What is storyboarding?

What is Story Boarding and why is it important?

Storyboarding is a short series of shot-for-shot images describing what each one will look like and how it will be framed. These storyboards can range from incredibly intricate and colored in, to basic and black and white, all thats required is that they communicate enough information that everyone working in that pre-production process can gather an idea of what the scene would look like put to film.

Story Boarding is an integral piece of the pre-production process, it helps to map out and conceptualise the ideas of the ideas of the director and give everyone involved a basic outline of what each shot will look like in a consecutive order. By doing this, this means that they are at liberty to go out of order and film in multiple locations in a concise, efficient way, that spends less time running back and forth between location and therefore saves the money, effort and time that would be spent to do so.
